Details of the Crash
According to the Virginia State Police, the incident occurred at approximately 2:27 a.m. near the 28-mile marker on I-295. Preliminary reports indicate that a Hyundai was traveling south in the northbound lanes when it collided head-on with a tractor-trailer.
The violent impact forced the tractor-trailer across the median into the southbound lanes before coming to a stop. Skylar Vargo, the driver of the Hyundai, became trapped inside her vehicle, which quickly became engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, worked to free her from the wreckage, and transported her to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
