Firefighters arrived within six minutes and courageously entered the smoke-filled residence to locate and rescue Mr. Welle. He was quickly found and brought to safety before lifesaving medical treatment began at the scene.

Mercy EMS and Mercy Life Line transported him to the Mercy Hospital Springfield Burn Center, where medical teams worked tirelessly. Despite their efforts, Robert tragically succumbed to his injuries later that evening, passing away at 7:47 p.m.
