Authorities reported that the shooting occurred at a residence in the 500 block of Deepwoods Drive, where an argument escalated into gunfire. Herbert suffered multiple gunshot wounds and, despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, succumbed to his injuries.
A woman inside the home was also struck by gunfire but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office later identified Herbert as the victim. Police have charged Deandre Harris, 21, with first-degree murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the shooting. Harris was taken into custody later that day near the Indiana border. The investigation remains ongoing.
