AVONDALE ESTATES, Georgia — A DeKalb County police officer has been charged with felony offenses after authorities say he fatally shot Seth Jayden Eccles, 19, during an attempted arrest in an Avondale Estates neighborhood. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) announced Wednesday that Officer Derrick Harris Jr., 37, faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct in connection with the shooting.
Timeline of Events
Early Tuesday afternoon, DeKalb County officers and U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents were searching for a suspect in the armed robbery of a mail carrier.
