INDIANAPOLIS — The community is mourning the loss of Corbin Merrill, a 4-year-old boy who went missing on Indianapolis’ west side on Saturday and was later found dead.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), Merrill was discovered around 3 p.m. in the 2800 block of Montclair Drive. Before officials located him, he had last been seen leaving a residence earlier that day.

Disappearance and Search
At the time of his disappearance, Merrill was wearing an orange shirt, brown shorts, and sandals themed after Luigi from Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. franchise. Police believed he was on foot when he went missing.

Officers launched a search effort that included foot patrols and drones. The Indianapolis Fire Department Search and Rescue also assisted in the operation.

Death Investigation
IMPD confirmed that the case is now categorized as a death investigation. The Marion County Coroner’s Office will determine Merrill’s exact cause and manner of death.

Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
