LINCOLN COUNTY, North Carolina — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has released new details about a tragic and fiery head-on crash that claimed the life of Tracy Dale Mosteller, 59, of Vale, and left Kevin Lee Long, 52, of Iron Station, seriously injured. Investigators say impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the devastating collision, which occurred Wednesday morning on NC 27 near Long Circle.

Details of the Collision

The crash happened at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, when troopers responded to the scene along NC 27.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2001 Ford Expedition, driven by Kevin Lee Long, was traveling westbound when it crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2016 Volvo driven by Tracy Dale Mosteller.

The impact was catastrophic. Following the collision, the Ford Expedition became engulfed in flames, creating a dangerous and heartbreaking scene for first responders.

Emergency personnel rushed to provide aid. Long sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center Main in Charlotte. His current condition has not been publicly updated. Sadly, Tracy Dale Mosteller suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
